XS Energy Drink - FAQ

Parachuting with XS Energy Drink - AmwayWho is the target market for energy drinks?

Energy drinks have been around for more than a decade, and have grown in popularity at an amazing pace. Red Bull, the most widely advertised energy drink, claims to sell over one billion cans world-wide each year. Amway believe the target population for XS Energy drinks is people who need energy but don’t want the calories and carbohydrates of traditional energy drinks or soft drinks.

The fast growth of the specialised coffee market worldwide has also contributed significantly to creating a demand for daily drinks that provide an energy boost. The major specialised coffee marketers have been expanding to cold, canned drinks to make the daily use of their products more convenient and practical. This direction is perfect for Energy Drinks.

The average family drinks several litres of liquid every day. Many of those liquids are consumed cold, out of cans and as an energy boost. Amway’s research has shown that a typical “XS Consuming Family" of four easily consumes more than four 12-packs per month. This is only 48 cans for the entire family per month. This is barely 1 can every 3 days per family member. Anyone who has introduced great tasting XS drinks to their families knows that this is a very conservative amount, and the reality of normal consumption in such families is actually greater.

Why would I consume this drink?

As an additional source of energy throughout the day and as a nice treat. Amway’s XS Energy Drink is also a good addition to any weight management program as it contains very few (kilojoules) calories. It is the perfect alternative to cappuccinos, lattes and cola based soft drinks with the added benefit of only 8-10 calories per can.

Why is the recommended consumption 1 can per day?

XS Energy Drinks comply with the standard for formulated caffeinated beverages in the Australian / New Zealand Food Standards Code. This standard describes the type and quantity of ingredients that can be used and allows up to 10 micrograms of Vitamin B12 per daily serving. As each 250 ml can of Amway’s XS Energy drink contains 10 micrograms of Vitamin B12, we recommend that no more than one can per day should be consumed.

Is XS Energy Drink suitable to drink daily?

Yes. If you consume soft drinks or coffee daily, then XS shouldn't be much different.

Why does Red Bull and V recommend 2 cans per day?
The B vitamins in Amway’s XS Energy Drink are double the levels in the competitors product so you only need to drink half the amount of XS Energy for the same benefit.

XS Energy Drink RangeShould those with high blood pressure consume this drink?

The issue is hypertension – Amway recommend that anyone who is caffeine sensitive or has been told by a doctor to not use caffeine, should not use this drink.

Should those with hypoglycemia use this drink?
Artificial sweeteners rather than sugar are used in the drink. Amway recommends that anyone with a medical condition should always consult with his or her doctor. Many diabetics enjoy Amway’s XS Energy Drink after they have discussed the use with their doctor.

Is it suitable for use in pregnancy?
Pregnant women are not encouraged to use any drink containing herbs. There are many unknowns about herbs and their long-term effects on a developing foetus. Until more is known about herbs, many health professionals recommend staying away from them while pregnant to be on the safe side.

Is it suitable for children?

Amway advises that the Australian / New Zealand Food Standards Code recommends that children should not consume formulated caffeinated beverages. Therefore, we bring this recommendation to the attention of parents of children under 13 years old. The caffeine level in a can of Amway’s XS Energy Drink is similar to the level of caffeine in a 600ml bottle of Coke.

What, if any, is the intended use for athletes?

Caffeine is found in many common and everyday foods. It is an alkaloid with a stimulant action. Caffeine is not classified as a prohibited stimulant under the World Anti-Doping Code 2004 Prohibited List unless otherwise specified in particular sports. Refer to the Australian Sports Drug Agency at http://www.asda.org.au/media/fact_sheets/caffeine.htm for more information.
Athletes at high levels should always know the restricted and banned substances related to their sport and to the International sports world, and should always make the decision themselves should they choose to take a product. The final decision is always in the hands of the athlete.
